Ski Season Has Begun

Residents of the Vail Valley have been in a state of bliss since November 19th when Vail opened almost the entire front side of the mountain with a 2 foot base. As of today, Vail Mountain is 60% open with the recent additions of China Bowl and Sun Up bowl. There are currently 20 of 31 lifts running and over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain available. Beaver Creek opened last Wednesday with a powder day the locals are still talking about. The brand new high-speed chair 5 (Sun Down Bowl) is almost finished and will be open December 9th. The new chair will cut the ride time in half! This is the best season opening we have had in many years and the snow keeps falling!

In addition to the terrific snowfall, all of the remaining major construction projects are finally coming to completion. The Four Seasons will be open for hotel guests and owners on December 11th. Our office was privileged to meet with the new GM for this building who told us everything is going according to plan and they are ready and excited to greet the first ever guests of this beautiful hotel. The Ritz Carlton in Lionshead is now open for business. And you must enjoy dinner and a movie at the new Cinebistro at Solaris. There are few experiences like this one.

With the start of ski season also comes the beginning of an endless schedule of wonderful winter events. One of the most exciting is the Birds of Prey World Cup held at Beaver Creek. The races start this Friday with the men’s downhill on a course that Bode Miller described as “scary” and that is recognized as one of the most technical race courses in the world. For more information on the schedule of races please click here. If you haven’t attended a ski race before this is the one to see. The best in the world pull out all the stops reaching speeds of up to 85mph to stand on the podium.

Immediately following the races, the annual Snow Daze concert series will kick off December 6th in Vail Village. To find more information on the schedule of performances, please click here.
