Facelifts and Teardowns

As mentioned in the featured article in this month’s newsletter, several buildings in Vail Village and Lionshead have been remodeled or town down and replaced. In some cases, a building was torn down and replaced by the same hotel or condominium complex with a brand new, gorgeous building but in most cases, there has been a complete departure from what was there before. The Four Seasons for example is replacing the old Holiday Inn and Solaris is replacing the aged and worn out Crossroads complex. The Arabelle is replacing a combination of various buildings – what used to stand in its place was employee housing, the old TV 8 Studio, restaurants and lockers. Now, with the new building almost done, some of the finest shops and restaurants will be available in the Plaza for all to enjoy. In addition, Arabelle will house ski school and skier services such as lift ticket sales and equipment rentals.

 

One of the buildings that was left standing but is going through a tremendous transformation is Manor Vail located at Golden Peak (Chairlift 6). A total remodel to the exterior is taking place and 17 penthouses are actually being added on top of the existing condos! They are being built on “table top” structures to accommodate the extra structural demand. The penthouses range in price from $3.5mm to $14mm and many are available today. This is one of the best locations in all of Vail as it is right across the street from Chair 6 (6 to chair 11 takes skiers to the top in no time) and both the adult and children’s ski schools.

 

Other buildings that were torn down and rebuilt include the Tivoli Lodge, the Vail View Residences and the Willows Property in the Village. All will be complete within the next 18 months.
