USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Vail and Avon
Colorado has been so fortunate to host the Inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge this week. The first stage of the 6 stage race was in Colorado Springs followed by stage 2 from Gunnison to Aspen, Stage 3 the Vail Time Trial, Stage 4 Avon to Steamboat , Stage 5 Steamboat to Breckenridge and finally Golden to Denver for a dramatic finish to an incredible race. Last Thursday, American Levi Leipheimer won the Vail Time Trial riding a blistering pace from Vail Village to the Vail Pass Cul-De-Sac with a time of just over 25 minutes. That's an average speed of over 20 mph with half the ride being uphill. My daughter and I were able to stand right on the road as the riders flew by at around 40 mph. During the race, we were able to watch the riders up close as they warmed up on their stationary bikes before their rides. My family and I were also able to watch the Gunnison to Aspen stage on Wednesday from Independence pass. We parked our car on the last switchback just before the summit of the 12,000 foot pass to watch the attacks come one after another. If you watch the footage on Versus, you will see my daughter Hannah standing on top of our minivan waving a foam hand just as Tejay Vangarderen rounds the corner to make his attack. What a privilege to see these elite athletes in our home town, riding on our roads and enjoying our towns.
Labor Day
Summer is not over yet but the last hurrah is typically Labor Day weekend. Many of the visitors to Colorado spend the weekend camping and many come to Vail and Beaver Creek to get in as much as they can in the outdoors as the kids start to head back to school. There is one more free concert at the Ford Amphitheater next Tuesday and there are several other great events coming over the next couple of weeks. The Vail Jazz Festival, Octoberfest, Allison Knauss in concert and many other landmark events are still to come. Click here for the events calendar.
It's a Great Time to Buy
I know I say this in every newsletter, but it's true! It's been a great time to buy all summer but an even better time post Labor Day. We are now seeing price reductions on almost every listing in the Valley as sellers realize they have very little time to get their homes sold before kids go back to school and the crowds begin to dwindle. The prospect of having to wait until the winter for buyers to come back to town is disconcerting so many sellers are reducing prices now in a last ditch effort to avoid several more months of market time. So give me a call and I will guide you to the best deals available today.
